Sarah Stefana Smith is a visual artist, researcher and PhD candidate in Social Justice Education, at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. As of August 2016, she will be a postdoctoral fellow with the Africana Research Center of Pennsylvania University. She received her MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Goddard College in 2009. Her research on black diaspora art and culture communicates between queer and affect theory, visuality and aesthetics. She has lectured on art in America, theories of feminism and visual culture and has presented work in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Sarah has received fellowships from the University of Bremen, the Leeway Foundation, Ontario Arts Council, and Vermont Studio Center.
