Alex Fialho is a PhD candidate in Yale University’s combined PhD program in the History of Art and Black Studies. Fialho’s dissertation “Apertures Onto AIDS: Black Queer Photography and the Art History of the Storage Unit” animates AIDS-related histories through the lens of artists Lola Flash, Darrel Ellis, Lyle Ashton Harris, and Kia LaBeija. His dissertation research has been supported by the Whitney Independent Study Program, a Predoctoral Fellowship at the Getty Research Institute, and a Luce/ACLS Dissertation Fellowship in American Art. Fialho is the recently appointed Curator of Collections at the Palm Springs Art Museum.
