Alison Rose Jefferson, MHC, PhD
Historian and More, Los Angeles
Alison Rose Jefferson discusses the underrepresented stories of the African American experience in the Los Angeles environs of urban and Pacific Rim and the collective memory of Southern California culture heritage. She explores these California enclaves and their significance within the Black experience and in geography, California Dream mythology, Southern California beach culture, American history and identity, and contemporary heritage conservation efforts. She will show how public history programming developed in some of these areas empower people with useful knowledge to be a force for civic engagement, justice and equality, while facilitating individual and community pride.
