Amy M. Mooney has published widely including a monograph on Archibald J. Motley, Jr., as well as contributions to Alma Thomas: Everything is Beautiful, Roots of the Black Chicago Renaissance, and Beyond Face: New Perspectives in Portraiture. A recipient of numerous fellowships, she was the 2019-2020 Terra Foundation Visiting Professor of American Art at Oxford University and delivered Regarding the Portrait, a lecture series that draws from her forthcoming book, Visions of Progress: Portraiture in the United States. (Duke University Press). Currently, Dr. Mooney is curating a Newberry Library exhibition that readdresses the contributions of Chicago’s African American studio photographers.
