C. Rose Smith is an American visual artist whose research-based practice uses photography and moving images to examine relationships between power and identity. Grounded in historical research, her work engages fashion, nineteenth-century architecture, and landscapes to create staged, evocative imagery. Through acts of defiance and deliberate visual tension, she juxtaposes herself in particular interior and exterior spaces. Positioned between speculation and lived experience, her work draws on surrealism and Sankofa to reclaim and reanimate fragments of history. Smith has exhibited internationally and is based in Memphis, TN.
