J. Yolande Daniels is an associate professor in Architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a co-founding principal of studioSUMO in New York. Daniels is a recipient of the Rome Prize in Architecture and a fellow of the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum in studio practice and cultural studies. Daniels’ design research has been exhibited at the 17th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition and with studioSUMO in the American pavilion at the 14th. Daniels’ design research investigates the translation of societal ideas of subordination through foundational rules that influence spatial relationships and the construction of objects and spaces.
