Liz Andrews
Myrtle Elizabeth “Liz” Andrews is an artist and curator who orchestrates visionary projects at museums, schools, and cultural institutions. Andrews has served as the Director of the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art since August 2021. At Spelman, she has led the staff of the museum, mounted and curated nationally-recognized exhibitions, hosted dynamic public programs and created opportunities for students to learn about art, curating, and collections care. She co-curated and spearheaded the tour of Silver Linings: Celebrating the Spelman Art Collection, the first national tour of works from the museum’s permanent collection. She has successfully fundraised for the museum exhibition program and collection, and the museum was honored with the inaugural Bridgemaker Prize by the Art Bridges Foundation in 2025. Prior to Spelman, Liz was the executive administrator in the Director’s Office of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where she helped manage the priorities of an encyclopedic museum and co-curated Black American Portraits, and co-edited and contributed to the accompanying book. She is co-curator and co-editor of the forthcoming exhibition and catalogue Bisa Butler: Tender Monuments at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM), which opens in March 2027. Andrews is from Denver, Colorado and holds a BA from Wesleyan University and MA from NYU Tisch School of Arts. She received her PhD in Cultural Studies from George Mason University in 2019 and was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award by Mason in 2023.
