Mara Brock Akil
Writer, Producer, Director, and Showrunner
Mara Brock Akil is an award-winning writer, producer, director, and showrunner, known for her groundbreaking body of work including Girlfriends, Being Mary Jane, and Forever. She is the recipient of a Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television and the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award, amongst other accolades. In 2021, Mara expanded her passion for non-profit work and started her very own non-profit writing residency in Los Angeles called The Writers’ Colony.
