Sophia Nahli Allison is an Academy Award nominated filmmaker, self-portrait photographer, artist, and writer. A black lesbian myth, her work transcends time and space, exploring the liminality of memories and dreams.

Her filmography includes the critically acclaimed A Love Song For Latasha, which received a 2021 Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Short, and the 2021 HBO Max special Eyes on the Prize: Hallowed Ground. 

Sophia is the recipient of a 2025 Creative Capital Award, a 2020 United States Artists Fellowship, a 2014 Chicago 3Arts Award, and has been an artist-in-residence at MacDowell, Black Rock Senegal, and the Camargo Foundation, among others.
