Zeinabu irene Davis is an independent filmmaker and professor of communication at UCSD. One of her best-known works is an experimental narrative exploring a woman’s inner world, Cycles (1989). Her dramatic feature, Compensation (1999), reveals two interrelated love stories offering a view of Black Deaf culture. She recently completed a dramatic short about an experience of COVID-19 titled Pandemic Bread, which earned the Audience Award at the San Diego Filipino Film Festival. She is working on a hybrid documentary, Stars of the Northern Sky, which tells the stories of abolitionists Sojourner Truth, Phyllis Wheatley, and Marie Joseph Angelique.
