Chantaneice received her Master of Arts from the African and African Diaspora Studies program at UT-Austin, where she is currently a PhD candidate. Her work engages with a wide-range of fields, including Black Feminisms, Critical Race Studies, Visual Culture Studies, (Auto)Ethnography, Performance Studies, and Critical Tattoo Studies in order to elucidate synchronicities between historical and contemporary ideologies of race, class, gender, and sexuality that seek to contain and make deviant both the black body and the tattooed body. Her dissertation will explore demands that emerge when a critical black queer feminist lens is deployed to examine the act/process/practice of modern tattooing within a legacy of chattel slavery and Africa diasporic body art genealogies.
