Mercy Romero is Assistant Professor of American Literature and American Studies in the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies at Sonoma State University. She received her doctorate in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley and her bachelor’s degree from Barnard College. Her writing explores the uses of memory and formations of community, most recently thinking about the archives and afterlives of the Soledad Brother’s trial in a forthcoming essay entitled “I am Still in Isolation: Black Radical Movements and Courtroom Drawings, 1971.” Her first book, “Toward Camden,” thinks about vacancy, dispossession, and the making of public memory and is forthcoming from Duke University Press.
