Sarah Richter is a PhD candidate in Art History at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.Her research is focused on modern and contemporary West African and diasporic photography, with an emphasis on portraiture. She investigates issues surrounding the archive, memory, representations of the body, race, and gender. Her dissertation is entitledBound by Faith and Blood: Activism, Mobility, and Independence in Portraiture of Women Across the French Atlantic
