Bahamian-American Alexis Alleyne-Caputo is an anthropologist, archivist, researcher, and award-winning commissioned interdisciplinary artist. She is a graduate of Goddard College, M.F.A., New York University, M.A., B.S./M.A. In 2017, Alleyne-Caputo was awarded a research travel grant from Goddard College to Zurich University of the Arts in Zurich, Switzerland to research decolonizing art institutions.

Ms. Alleyne-Caputo co-presented for 2021 Museum Association of the Caribbean Conference: Cultivating Resilience in Museums & Cultural Heritage Site, 2021 Association of African American Museums Conference (Sun, Soul, and Soil: Diaspora Blackness and Justice in Global Museums, Part II), and in Fall 2019 at the Institute for African-American Affairs and Center for Black Visual Culture at New York University.

A university professor and lecturer, she has taught at the University of Miami (2014-2017), New World School of the Arts at Miami-Dade College (2010-2015), and as a guest artist at New York Film Academy (Miami Beach, FL), 2019, Harlem School of the Arts, New York, 2010, and served as an art consultant at Florida Memorial University (Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts), 2009.

Beyond the academy, she has created and presented work to illustrate women’s contributions to the arts and is a Better Selves Fellow (2020-2022) and CATALYST Miami 2019-2020 fellow. In 2016, she was awarded the Artist Certificate of Appreciation from the Miami-Dade County Office of The Mayor & County Commissioners for her contribution to arts and culture in Miami-Dade County.
