Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Destiny is a 4th year doctoral candidate in the Department of English at the University of Pennsylvania. She studies Black feminist theory, 20th and 21st century African American women’s literature and visual culture, and Black girlhood studies. Destiny earned her B.A. in English, with certificates in African American Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies, from Princeton University. Before entering graduate school, Destiny designed and taught a curriculum on the history of Black feminist art and activism to middle school aged Black girls in Brooklyn.

Her most recently published article, titled “Danitra Vance’s Cabrini Green and the Performance of Black Girlishness,” was published in Visual Arts Research in summer of 2021, and she has a forthcoming article in Resources for American Literary Study. Additionally, Destiny has published blog posts on the Girlhood Museum website, including a review of the novel Young Adults novel The Stars and the Blackness Between Them and a reflection on Alice Children’s 1981 classic Rainbow Jordan.
