Figurative painter Jacqueline Gopie was born in Kingston, Jamaica and now lives and works in Coral Gables, Florida. Immediately upon retiring in 2002 after a 22-year career in the United States Army Medical Corps, she attended the University of Miami where she received both undergraduate (2005) and graduate (2012) degrees in painting.

She has held nine solo exhibitions and participated in juried group exhibitions in Florida and the Caribbean.

Gopie promotes the arts via unconventional drawing workshops such as the Lowe Art Museums’ “Fine Art of Health Care” which uses visual art observation techniques towards improving communication skills for health care professional and “Exchange for Change” which provides classes in visual and language arts for prisoners confined in the Miami Dade Correctional Homestead facility.

Jacqueline has attended local and national residencies including the Vermont Studio Center (2019) and the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans, Louisiana (2019) and has been nominated for the United States Artist Award. She has received the Women in the Visual Arts scholarship, Bradford Art scholarship, the Art Schneller award and the 2016 Joan Mitchell Emerging Artist Grant.
