Play at the End of the World: Knightworks Lecture Demonstration

  • Date: February 18, 2022
  • Time: 11:30 am—1:00 pm
  • Location: Lecture Hall

In this lecture demonstration, Haverford professor Christina Knight and choreographer Jessi Knight will discuss how their dance theater company knightworks approaches art-making as a tool of social practice and intentional community design. They will also perform an excerpt of their current work-in-progress, doomsday, the third installment of a trilogy centering on the idea of the “end of the world.” The project, a pop-up, DIY “doomsday church” invested in charting a black future, seeks to explore the end of the world as an outlook that is passed down generationally, particularly for people of color. Engaging sadness as both a debilitating inheritance and a path to a different kind of political practice, doomsday explores the spectrum of grief as both formative and transformative.
